I am writing to you from Oracle, AZ this week as I am in a meditation retreat
surrounding myself with Silence. The stillness within is what mystics have known
as God within, and the key to getting there is to let go and let God. Synchronicity
is at play here as ‘letting go’ is a Lenten theme as well, also known as ‘fasting’.
Fasting and then releasing altogether, not just what no longer serves, but what is
holding you back – even if you don’t believe you’re ready to let it go – is a must if
your highest desire is to know God more fully and prepare your heart and mind to
embody Christ-consciousness at Easter.
Rev. Tom Thorpe wrote, “In Charles Fillmore’s view, fasting and prayer (which he
called feasting) become primarily spiritual rather than physical practices. Their
purpose is to help us permanently release unproductive thinking and behavior
patterns and to build up or reinforce Truth ideas until they become the guiding
principles for every area of our lives.”
Sometimes we recognize what we’re holding onto that is keeping us stuck or
standing in place, but it’s comfortable and familiar. This is most likely a re-
occurring thought based in a belief about yourself that isn’t true. All thoughts are
about us and a reflection of our beliefs. Most of our beliefs were developed as
children and most of those beliefs were based on things we didn’t understand at
the time. And here we are, decades later, choosing to cling to what’s comfortable
instead of letting it go in order to get closer to the Truth.
Charles Fillmore wrote, “We must learn to deny our selfish impulses and be
obedient to impulses of brotherly love. When we withdraw our attention,
interest, and support from the false and the unworthy, this is true fasting . . .
When we give that same attention, interest, and support to the enduring good,
we are feasting on the things of the Spirit, and this is true prayer.”
So, I invite you, nay, I implore you, LET IT GO. It’s just a thought, it isn’t real! The
only things that are real are eternal and created from Love. So, comfortable or
not, if it is keeping you from a greater relationship from knowing the divine within
you – and I promise you that it is – let that shit go! If you can do that successfully
(with practice), then you are preparing appropriately for Easter – you are
embodying Lent and readying yourself for More.
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on
earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in
heaven.” – Matthew 16:19
