Greetings, Beloveds!

I found the sweetest, powerful article on unity.org by the beloved Dorothy Pierson that I wanted to share with you as we continue to explore the magnitude of the power of Release throughout the remainder of our One Humanity, Many Stories theme. This is a perfect example of the subtleties of Release: the topic is prayer, God’s plan for us, and the power of renewed strength when we rely on the Lord, our God, for sustenance. It’s also about remaining open to the present moment, which we cannot do if we are carrying baggage of past hurts along with us. We must let go of pain and expectation in order to be ready and available for when the call to something higher comes.

My favorite quote from this reading: “We cannot really settle down and retire from life.” Our work is never done! And when we’re working towards peace and freedom of mind and spirit, our energy can be renewed by focusing on Truth, and letting the rest of it go.

I love how she instructs us to “read with the eyes of your heart”:

Keeping Close in Prayer
By Rev. Dorothy Pierson

The following excerpt is from Keeping Close in Prayer.

“As we open our mind and heart to the message of eternal life, we turn to our Scriptures for confirmation. In the book of Isaiah, the prophet speaks to the magnitude of God’s plan for all creation. Read these words with the eyes of your heart:

‘Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, And His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young Men stumble and fall; But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings as eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40: 28-31)’

“Somehow as I read these words I hear and feel the power of Spirit that transcends the ages and feeds me in this moment as I view my life and my purpose. I have a word before me on my computer that reads, THIS PRESENT MOMENT IS A BRIGHT AND EXCITING PLACE FOR ME TO BE.

“This … came to me one night after a class in Sacramento. As I went out of the church I took a little rolled up blessing paper from the basket on the counter near the door. When I read the blessing, I felt a deep response to it. However, in that moment I was tired and not excited about anything but to get home and close my day. Yet I kept repeating the words over and over. It seemed like a promise of good to come! And so, I taped it to my computer.

“Shortly after that we concluded our work in Sacramento and moved to the Seattle area, bought a new house, planted lovely shrubs and flowers, and felt the joy of “the present moment.” Then one day the telephone rang and the call came for Phil [Dorothy’s husband] to come to Unity School and work with the Education Department. We moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri, bag and baggage … another house and a whole new view of our life. Is this forever? No, it is another present moment! It is another bright and beautiful place for me to be.

“I am confident that life is a moving process drawn by an eternal plan of God’s good for everyone. We can’t really settle down and retire from life. We are created in the Spirit of the living God in a universe of life that sings, renews, rebuilds, restores, heals and in every wonderful way contributes to creation. We are meant to soar like the eagles and be renewed in a strength that runs and is not weary! We are meant to live fully in this moment in this present time and place!

“We are spiritually the very essence of the Christ Presence so clearly lived by Jesus. Over and over again we walk together on life’s paths for we have a destiny that knows no time or space. Let us keep close in prayer and love and let the moment wrap around us as we accept life’s fullness.”

Praise to all of you who walk this journey with us at Unity of the Sierra! You are loved and appreciated for your impact on our commUnity and the world around you. Please share your physical presence with us this Sunday, as we continue to learn and grow in the Spirit of the Lord. Can’t wait to see you here . . . .
